Nov. 16, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Louisville junior Tarah McKay earned one of 38 individual bids to the 2008 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field committee on Sunday.

"I am proud of McKay and all that she has done for the women's program," said U of L head coach Brice Allen. "We are optimistic about her chances at the NCAA Championships."

McKay, a three-time All-BIG EAST and All-Region performer, qualified for the championships following a fifth place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday. This marks the second time in women's program history that a runner will compete at the championships, the last coming in 2006 when McKay finished 106th.

The national championship appearance serves as a fitting end to the 2008 season for McKay who has been arguably the Cards most prolific runner, having already won two individual titles this season, Mid-America Opener and Navy Invitational, while finishing as runner-up at the Greater Louisville Classic.

A total of 31 men's and women's teams each along with 38 individual runners were selected to participate in the championships through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. In order to qualify individuals had to finish in the top 25 in their respective region.

The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Indiana State University on Nov. 24 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's 6,000-meter race is set to begin at 12:08 p.m. ET, while the men's 10,000-meter race will follow at 12:48 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the races live on CBS College Sports Network or via streaming online at NCAA.com
