Justine Landi and Jana Matiasovska each had 12 kills to lead the University of Lousiville volleyball team to a 30-15, 30-20, 30-22 sweep of Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.

U of L improves to 2-0 and Coastal drops to 0-2 as action from the Louisville Marriott East Invitational continues. Tennessee Tech beat Memphis 32-30, 30-28, 26-30, 30-25 in the first match of the day.

"We are learning to play as a unit and in front of a big crowd. I was glad to see our serving improve after 22 service errors in yesterday's win," said Yelin, whose team had just four serving errors and aced CCU nine times."

U of L outhit Coastal Carolina .302 to .113. The Cardinals outblocked the Chanticleers 12-5 and notched nine service aces led by Landi's four. Lecia Brown set a career-high with 10 blocks with Elena Pilnikova adding six. Coastal was led by Jill Nyhof's seven kills. Megan Bickford had six kills and four blocks for the Chants.

The Cardinals came out swinging, connecting on 18 of their 29 attacks for kills in the first game. Building a ten-point lead at 15-5, the Cardinals put CCU on the defensive and continued to pull away with the final score of 30-15 being the biggest margin. The second game was much closer as Coastal stayed within three and even tied at 18. However, the Cardinals went on a 12-2 run to end the game and take a 2-0 game lead into the lockerroom at the break. The Chants stayed close in third game early with a 9-9 tie. And then U of L's Samantha Dabbs served for eight straight points and CCU never challenged again.
