BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - The University of Louisville's D'Ana McCarty finished 21st in the qualifying round of the women's hammer throw at the IAAF World Junior Championships on Tuesday in Poland.

McCarty, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., had a throw of 177 feet (53.97m) on her second of three attempts during the preliminary round of action. Only the top 12 finishers in Tuesday's qualifying round advanced to Wednesday's final.

McCarty, who completed her freshman season at U of L in May at the NCAA Mideast Regional, earned her bid to the World Junior Championships with a second-place finish in the hammer throw at the USA Junior Championships on June 20 with a personal best throw of 182-07 (55.65m).

The IAAF World Junior Championships will continue for the Cards on Wednesday at 12:10 p.m. ET as Chinwe Okoro competes in the qualifying round of the women's shot put, while the final is set for Thursday at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Following the IAAF World Junior Championships, the Cards' Andre Black will represent Team USA at the 2008 NACAC Under 23 Championships in Toluca, Mexico. The meet will feature athletes from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Louisville's summer of international events will conclude with head coach Ron Mann serving as the men's middle distance coach for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Aug. 8-24.
