Position:
Assistant Coach / Throws

Experience:
5th Year

Manette Cheshareck enters her fifth season with the University of Louisville track and field program and works mainly with the throwers. Her coaching responsibilities include designing and supervising the Cardinal throwers' training sessions and workouts.

In her first four years, Cheshareck has guided U of L's throwers to seven individual conference titles and five school records in the shot put, weight throw and javelin.

Two of her throwers, Shola Kadiri and Trish Young, reached NCAA provisional marks in the shot put and javelin in two consecutive years, but narrowly missed the NCAA Championships. Cheshareck played a vital role in the development of Kadiri, who was named 2002 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year after winning both the shot put and weight throw events.

Prior to coming to Louisville, Cheshareck spent three years as an assistant track and field coach at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, Ill. During her time at PHS, her shot put and discus throwers set numerous school records and helped the squad to its first conference championship in more than a decade.

Cheshareck also coached the school's first student-athlete to place in the discus event at the state championship. During the summer season, many of her athletes qualified multiple times for the AAU Junior National Meet in the discus and shot put.

The Illinois native and former state champion and record holder in the discus was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference performer at the University of Florida. A consistent point scorer in the discus for the Lady Gators, Cheshareck was also a member of the 1990 SEC Indoor Championship team.

Her coaching career began at UF, where she coached in clinics as a Lady Gator student-athlete under Coach Scott Irving. This knowledge and experience was enhanced in her last two years in Gainesville by Olympic throws coach Sandy Fowler, who replaced Irving in 1989.

Cheshareck, who holds United States Track and Field Level 1 certification, earned a bachelor's degree in English at Florida in 1991.
