Women's Tennis Ranks No. 70 in ITA Pre-season Poll
Jan. 10, 2007 The University of Louisville women's tennis team will enter the spring portion of its season ranked No. 70 in the ITA National Poll, the highest pre-season ranking in school history. "We are happy about our initial ranking because it is the highest ranking in the five years that I have been here," said U of L coach Greg Davis. "January will be a challenge with a difficult slate ahead." The Cardinals open their dual season Jan. 19 at Vanderbilt. The first home match will be Jan. 21 against Michigan State at 1 p.m. "We feel we have put together the most challenging schedule by far since I have been here," said Davis. "The fall schedule prepared the players for the level of competition that the spring will bring. I thimk the addition of Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and home match against Kentucky as well as tough road matches at Kansas, Missouri and Virginia Tech during spring break will benefit us going into the BIG EAST Tournament in Tampa, this year." The Cardinal's recruiting class for the 2006-07 year was ranked in the nation's Top 35 by TennisRecruiting.net. The Cardinals signed two incoming players who are both nationally ranked for their play in juniors. Lauren Imre of Litchfield Park, Ariz. and Jo-Ann Van Aerde of Paramaribo, Suriname will join the Cardinal roster. The Cards were ranked No. 74 in the final 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) year end poll. U of L is coming off a 23-7 season for their fourth straight 20+ win season under fourth year coach Greg Davis. U of L also made its first ever Top 50 appearance in the poll in 2006. The Cardinals return all six of their top players for the 2006-07 season.
