Cardinal Softball to Host NCAA Regional; Will Play Purdue Friday at 6 p.m.

The University of Louisville softball team will host the NCAA softball regional May 15-17 at Ulmer Stadium. The Cards will face Purdue Friday at 6 p.m., while Arizona, the tournament's overall ninth seed, and Tennessee-Martin will kick off Friday's action at 4 p.m. This marks Louisville's sixth consecutive NCAA tournament bid and the first time it has hosted an NCAA regional "We're very excited to be hosting at home in our sixth NCAA appearance," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "It is really a treat for us to be able to play at home in front of our fans. This is a great regional with Arizona and UT Martin and a wonderful opportunity for the city of Louisville to come out and see some great college softball in a history-making NCAA regional for us." Should the Cardinals advance, they will meet up with the winner from the Palo Alto Region which features the tournament's eighth overall seed Stanford who will face Portland State in their first round game with Cal Poly and Nevada also in that bracket. As of May 5, Louisville (47-9) stands in at No. 17 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association and No. 18 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, marking its twelfth consecutive week in the top 25. The Cards are in the midst of a record-setting season with school record for wins (47) achieving its highest national ranking at 14th. U of L has also been very strong at home this season with a 26-2 record at Ulmer Stadium. The Cards are batting .318 as a team with seven starters hitting over .300.
