LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Caitlin Rehder and sophomore Giselle Mangal finished with one goal and one assist each to lead the Louisville women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Park in the finale of the 2009 Courtyard by Marriott Airport Cardinal Classic.

The Cardinals finished second overall in the event with a 1-1 mark, while South Carolina won the Cardinal Classic title with a 2-0 weekend. Cincinnati was 1-1 and finished third overall on goal differential, while Saint Louis was 0-2 to finish fourth.

With the win, the Cardinals evened their overall mark to 2-2, while the Billikens fell to 1-3 on the season. The victory was also the first for the Cards in the all-time series with SLU.

"This was a great rebound game for us after the game on Friday night, where we had a tough result on the scoreboard, but had a good performance on the field, and the credit for that rebound goes to our players," said Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "We're continuing to compete and our players are really starting to come into their own by doing more of the things in the game that we're working on in practice."

Louisville opened the scoring in Sunday's game in the 14th minute as Rehder scored her first goal of the season from inside the box on a perfect cross from Mangal. The goal was the fifth of the career for Rehder, while the assist was the fourth of the career for Mangal.

"On that first goal, Giselle did a nice job of picking her head up and serving to a target to find Rehder at the back post," Ferguson-Dayes said. "On the second goal, it was nice to see Giselle get a goal with her assist because she's been great through the last week of practice and I think she had a tremendous weekend as well."

The Cardinals controlled the game from that point forward and added the final goal in the 90th minute as Mangal connected from 12 yards away along the right side of the goal for her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career. Rehder and freshman Courtney Holtz added the assists on the goal for the Cardinals.

Freshman Taylor Vancil earned her second career shutout with three saves on the day, while the Cardinals out-shot the Billikens 9-7 overall. Louisville also held an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.

U of L had three players named to the Courtyard by Marriott Airport Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team including Mangal, Chelsea Hunter and Kate Cunningham.

Up next, Louisville will begin a four-game road stretch with a pair of games in the Lone Star State at Texas on Sept. 11 and at Baylor on Sept. 13.
