LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Texas forward Niki Arlitt netted the game winner in the second overtime period, handing the University of Louisville women's soccer team a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at the hands of the 8th ranked Longhorns.
The Cardinals had 10 shots on goal to Texas' three, but were unable to finish their chances in the attacking third.
Sophomore Caitlin Rehder broke through in the 19th minute, but was stopped by UT keeper Dianna Pfenninger who was forced to make nine saves on the day to keep the Cardinals off the board.
The Cards continued to control the match in the first half when Lindsay Boling broke through at the 23:55 mark, but her shot was stopped by Pfenninger, and the Texas back line was able to clear freshman Giselle Mangal's follow out off the back line to keep the game scoreless.
Sophomore Kelsey Hunyadi sent a low liner on net from outside the 18 on net toward the end of the first half, but Pfenninger came up with the save.
The Longhorns were forced to make five saves in the first half, and were outshot 7-6.
Sophomore Kate Cunningham had her shot stopped in the 61st minute, and minutes later, Cardinal keeper Chloe Kiefer made a save on a shot off the foot of Lucy Keith.
Hunyadi had another scoring chance at the 76:11 mark but was turned away, as did freshman Ashley Auld in the 86th minute.
Texas outshot the Cards 7-4 in the second half, but shots on goal were 4-2 in favor of The Ville.

The game winner came at the 106:08 mark, when Arlitt took the ball from 25 yards out and sent one into the upper corner, unassisted.
Boling had four shots to pace the Cards.
The back line for the Cardinals was superb, limiting a talented Texas group to just three shots on goal in 107 minutes of play.
The Cards will next host #25 Purdue on Sunday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET in Cardinal Park.
