Carole Dutchka begins her fifth season at U of L as an assistant coach under Karen Ferguson. Dutchka assists in the day-to-day operations of the program, including recruiting and team travel. She also works with Lesley Prather in coordinating the team's involvement in community outreach programs.
"Carole has been instrumental in the day to day operations of our program. She does much of the behind the scenes work that certainly does not go unnoticed or unappreciated," Noted Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
As we head in to the Big East in 2005 Carole will feel right at home with the level of soccer that is played there, having been a Regional All American for Penn State. Her playing experience at that level will be crucial as we begin to prepare our young team for the Big East Conference," added Ferguson.
Dutchka has spent the last four years coaching club soccer in the Louisville area. She served as head coach of the U-15 girl's Javanon team, which advanced to the semifinals of the Region II club Regional Championships. Dutchka coached the U-15 Louisville Soccer Alliance Club last spring.
Dutchka also took part in area youth organizations, educating coaches on the development of youth soccer players.
Following her playing career, Dutchka also worked as an undergraduate assistant coach for Penn State, assisting in recruiting, training and equipment.
Prior to her arrival to U of L, Dutchka acted as recreational specialist at the Edgewood Center for Children and Families in San Francisco, California, working with emotionally disturbed children.
In her playing days, she was captain of the 1998 Penn State team that finished the season ranked seventh in the nation and lost in the national quarterfinals to eventual champion Florida. That same season she was named first team All-Big Ten and regional All-American. She was academic All-Big Ten in `97 and `98.
A 2000 graduate at Penn State with a bachelor of science in Human Development and Family Studies, Dutchka also worked as the color commentator for radio broadcasts of PSU women's soccer games.
Dutchka was born in Marlboro, Massachusetts, and attended Marlboro HS. Dutchka holds the distinction of being the first American woman to score a goal at historic Wembley Stadium in England.
