LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team will close the fall racing season on Saturday at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. The event, which is contested on a 5,000-meter course along the Tennessee River through downtown Chattanooga, is the largest regatta in the south.

Racing will begin for the Cards at 10:45 a.m. ET, with one boat in the Novice 8+ event, and will continue with three crews in the Championship 8+ event at 12:20 p.m. Louisville will then have one crew in the Novice 4+ event at 3:55 p.m., and the day will conclude for the Cards with three boats in the Championship 4+ event at 4:40 p.m.

"This is a great race and a great way to wrap-up the fall season," said Cards' head coach Laura Fogt. "For the Novices, they get their first taste of what rowing is really all about. Just eight weeks ago, they knew nothing about rowing and now they get to head south to represent their university and line up with some of the best crews in the country. It's a race that they'll never forget.

"The Championship 8+ event is packed with top crews that will allow us to measure our team's progress throughout the fall season. We will take this information into winter training and over the next three months, we will work to turn any weak areas in to strengths. I'm looking forward to a challenging, yet exciting weekend of racing."

Overall, there will be 27 crews in the Championship 8+ event, while the Championship 4+ event will have 30 crews entered. Many of the top crews from the south will be competing in the event, allowing the Cards to race against crews they will see throughout the spring season.

In their most recent outing, the Cards earned a 16th-place finish in the Championship 8+ event at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 19 in Boston. On Oct. 18, the Cards' second varsity eight crew earned a race over Indiana in Bloomington.

Following the winter break, the Cards will return to action with a spring training trip to Oak Ridge, Tenn., on March 14-20. During the trip, the Cards are scheduled to race Duke, Buffalo and Tulsa.
