The University of Louisville rowing team earned a pair of top three finishes and five top 10 finishes overall at Saturday's Head of the Hooch Regatta.
The Cardinals earned a runner-up finish and eighth-place finish in the Championship 4+ event, a third-place finish in the Championship 8+ event, sixth place in the Freshman Novice 4+ and 10th in the Freshman Novice 8+. The Head of the Hooch is the second largest regatta in the country behind only the Head of the Charles.
In the Championship 4+ event, Louisville's "A" boat finished with a time of 15 minutes, 39.5 seconds across the 5,000-meter course, which moves through downtown Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. The Cards trailed only Clemson's "A" boat, which finished with a time of 15:36.5, while Texas was third at 15:52.1. Louisville's "B" boat finished eighth among the 40 entries with a time of 16:20.4, while the Cards' "C" boat was 14th at 16:32.7 and the "D" boat was 28th at 17:19.3.
Louisville's "A" boat finished with a time of 14:18.2 to finish third in the Championship 8+ race and trail only Clemson (14:16.9) and Tennessee (14:17.4), while Texas (14:31.2) and Duke (14:36.3) rounded out the top five. The Cards' "B" boat finished 15th among the 30 entries with a time of 15:11.2.
In the Freshman Novice 4+ event, the Cardinals finished sixth with a time of 18:09.4, while Clemson led the way at 16:34.0. In the Freshman Novice 8+, Louisville's "A" boat finished 10th with a time of 16:48.3, the "B" boat was 15th at 18:09.2 and Old Dominion earned the win with a time of 14:50.4.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Tampa, Fla., for a winter training trip on Dec. 27-Jan. 3 in preparation for the 2010 spring racing season.
