BOSTON - The University of Louisville rowing team earned a 16th-place finish in the Sunday's Championship 8+ event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta. This marks the 10th straight year the Cards have competed at the world's largest two-day rowing event.

The Cards varsity eight crew of junior Ashley Edwardson (coxswain), sophomore Anastasia Prokopenko, sophomore Kristin Falovo, senior Mallory Hamman, sophomore Sam Kayser, senior Lisa Grace, senior Sha'Lori Moore, junior Katie Rorer and senior Allison Pelette covered the 3-mile course in a time of 17 minutes, 3.023 seconds to finish 16th in the field of 38 boats on the sunny and chilly day in the northeast.

"The ladies had a great race today and represented their team and university very well," said Cards' head coach Laura Fogt. "We came here to race and they certainly put together a great race. They took care of the areas that we have been working on in practice and created solid boat speed. They handled the conditions well and saw consistent splits down the course.

"I'm proud of their efforts and feel we're moving in the right direction. We're looking forward to getting down the course with the entire team at the Head of the Hooch in two weeks."

The London Training Center earned the win with a time of 16:02.507, while ASR Nereus was second at 16:14.964. Yale was third at 16:25.331, followed by the University of London at 16:28.914 and the US Rowing Training Center in fifth at 16:30.359. Complete results are available at www.hocr.org.

Up next, the Cards will have a week off from competition before closing the fall racing season on Nov. 1 at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn.
