Louisville Seniors Defeat Alumnae at Second Annual Red & Black Day
Oct. 4, 2008 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing program hosted the second annual Red & Black Day Saturday at the Cardinal Boathouse on River Road. The event included three intrasquad scrimmage races, a pair of races against Louisville rowing alumnae and concluded with a cookout with the rowers and coaches courtesy of Frisch's Restaurant. The featured race of the day included members of the Cards' 2009 senior class against a talented group of former Cards in an eights race of approximately 1,000 meters on the Ohio River. The senior boat, which included seniors Laura Cers, Mandey Erdman, Lisa Grace, Mallory Hamman, Sha'Lori Moore, Allison Pelette and Jill Reeves and juniors Katie Rorer and Anna Zwanzig, defeated the alumnae crew of Nicole Alderson (2007), Kristin Bloom (2008), Beth Daunhauer (2007), Stephanie George (2004), Diana Golub (2005), Mandy Moore (2006), Carmen Noltemeyer (2004), Christy Ochsner (2004) and Becky Wohrle (2006).
"This was another wonderful event for our current athletes, our great alums and all of the friends and family of Louisville rowing," said Cards' head coach Laura Fogt. "We had another perfect day for rowing and a lot of fun on the waterfront. I want to thank all of the great friends, family and fans who came and supported our program and made this a special day for all of us." In the first eights race of the day, the Cards' Black crew of Ashley Edwardson, Anastasia Prokopenko, Katie Scordo, Annie Stadig, Shannon Elias, Freya Diehlmann, Samantha Seldon, Chelsea Reeves and Anneska Atzinger defeated the Red crew of Kimberly Feinberg, Sarah Fiske, Chelsea Haack, Kira Lawson, Ruthie Fligor, Erinn Torbeck, Brittany Hall, Maegan Smith and Anna Traughber. In the second eights race of the day, the Black crew of Anna Kirk, Pelette, Cers, Kristin Falovo, Grace, Hannah Baughman, Abbey Holder man, Jill Reeves and Jenna Rawlings defeated the Red crew of Erdman, Hamman, Moore, Lauren Mensch, Sam Kayser, Allison Siu, Rebecca Washer, Ashley Anderson and Elisa Parrent. In the first fours race of the day, the Cards' Black crew of juniors Edwardson, Prokopenko, Zwanzig, Rorer and Seldon defeated the Red alumnae crew of Olivia Brittain (2005), Melissa Grieshaber (2006), Rachel Mersch (2008), Katie Prince (2005) and Jenna Sample (2006). In the final fours race of the day, the Cards' Black crew of sophomores Tara McKiernan, Falovo, Fiske, Kayser and Lawson defeated the Red crew of Kirk, Mensch, Haack, Anderson and Scordo. The Cards will next compete on the weekend of Oct. 18-19 at a pair of events. The Cards will have athletes competing against Indiana on Oct. 18 in Bloomington, as well as the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 19. |
