Louisville Lacrosse to Open Inaugural Season Feb. 22 Against Bryant University
Jan. 22, 2008
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville lacrosse program will open its inaugural Division I season on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. ET, against Bryant University at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The Cards were originally slated to open the 2008 season against Presbyterian College on the same date, however, that game was cancelled last week by officials at Presbyterian forcing Cards' head coach Kellie Young to scramble for a replacement opponent. "We're thrilled to be hosting Bryant University for the first ever lacrosse game at the University of Louisville," said Young. "We support Presbyterian in their decision to drop our match and are simply thankful to Bryant's coaching staff and administration for their willingness to make the trip. Feb. 22 will be a memorable day in the history of Cardinal Lacrosse and Bryant now join's the scene in helping us make history." Bryant University, located in Smithfield, R.I., is currently an NCAA Division II program, though the Bulldogs plan to move up to Division I in 2009. Last season, the Bulldogs finished 9-6 overall and in fourth place in the Northeast 10 Conference standings with a 7-3 conference mark. In October, the Cards closed their first fall exhibition season with an 8-3 record, including wins over established Division I programs Virginia Tech, Cornell and Loyola. Along with the opener on Feb. 22, the Cards will host eight other home games in 2008, while also playing seven road games in their inaugural season.
