Jan. 7, 2008
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville lacrosse head coach Kellie Young announced Monday that first year defender Jamie Ward has been selected as the Cards' co-captain for the upcoming 2008 season, the first varsity season in the program's history. Ward joins junior goalkeeper Jen Heup as the Cards' co-captains for the program's inaugural season in 2008. A native of Ellicott City, Md., Ward emerged as a leader for the Cards during their fall exhibition campaign, which concluded an 8-3 overall record and wins over several established varsity programs including Cornell, Loyola and Virginia Tech. "Jamie is a driven athlete with a remarkable head on her shoulders," said Young. "Her passion for this game and her commitment to the University of Louisville has been and will continue to be a tremendous asset to this team. I'm thrilled she has accepted this leadership position and she will play a key role in the success of Louisville Lacrosse on and off the field." Ward is also representing the Cardinal lacrosse team on U of L's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2007-08. The Cards will officially begin varsity competition on Feb. 22, 2008 as they host Presbyterian College at 5 p.m. ET at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium located on South Floyd St, near the new Yum! Center.
