The 22nd ranked Louisville women's golf team is currently tied for second after the first round in the Mercedes Benz Women's Championship at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. Despite the cold and rain, the Cardinals shot a 296 in the first round and is tied with Kent State. Tournament host Tennessee leads the field after the first day with a score of 283.
Juniors Laura Anderson and Sara-Maude Juneau are currently tied at sixth after the first round. Anderson made the turn at one over par but made up strokes on the back nine with three birdies to finish at even par. Juneau was steady all day making the turn at even par and finished the back nine at even par as well. Tennessee's Diana Cantu leads the field at three under par.
Freshman Anna-Karin Ljunstrom is currently tied at 14th with a score of 74. Ljungstrom made eagle on the 17th hole to finish the day at two over par. Freshman Candice Wiley is currently tied at 54th. Wiley shot a 78 in the first round.
Senior Daphne Parker is currently tied at 80th. Parker finished the day with a score of 80. Louisville will continue play tomorrow with a 10:39 tee time from the first hole.
