Women's Golf Stands in Fifth After First Round in NCAA East Regional

Athens, Ga. - The University of Louisville women's golf team shot a 293 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional Championship Thursday afternoon at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Cardinals stand in fifth place after the first day. The nation's top-ranked team Duke leads the field with a score of 285. Louisville is just three strokes out of second. Florida is second with a score of 290 while South Carolina is third with a score of 291. Freshman Sara-Maude Juneau leads the field at five under par. The Cardinals started on the back nine where Juneau finished one under par. After making the turn the freshman had four birdies to finish the front nine at four under. She finished the day with six birdies and just one bogey. "It felt great," said Juneau. "I just tried to play smart and shot by shot today. I didn't try anything fancy." Junior Cindy LaCrosse finished the day at even par and is currently tied at 10th. LaCrosse started the day at one under par on the back nine and finished the front nine at one over. She finished the day with five birdies and three bogeys. Freshman Laura Anderson shot a 76 in the first round and is tied at 38th. She made the turn at even par on the back nine. She finished the front nine at four over par. Senior Jenny Calkins shot a 78 and is tied at 64th. Junior Amanda Henry is also tied at 64th after shooting a 78 in the first round. The Cardinals will begin teeing off at 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Louisville will start on the front nine on Friday. Live results can be found at www.golfstat.com. The top eight teams in the field and the top three individual finishers who are not members of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
