Field Hockey Goes on the Road to Face Missouri State and Saint Louis

The University of Louisville field hockey team will go back on the road for a pair of games at Missouri State Saturday at noon and Saint Louis Sunday at 1 p.m. The 16th-ranked Cards bring a 2-2 record into the weekend as they look to bounce back from Sunday's 2-1 loss to Indiana at Trager Stadium.

While sophomore Hayley Turner leads the team with seven points (2G, 3A), four different players sit atop the team standings with two goals each. Turner, juniors Karah Nall and Rachel Hollenbach and freshman Haley Jurich are among the offensive leaders.

Goalkeeper senior Heather Bustanoby (2-2) carries a 1.75 goals-against average with a .562 save percentage.

Scouting the Bears: Missouri State enters the weekend with a 2-3 overall record. The Bears have produced a potent offense in the early season, outscoring opponents 18-9 with wins over Robert Morris (7-1) and Saint Louis (7-0). Alyssa Hile leads the team with 13 points (5G, 3 A), while Kristina O'Connor follows with 10 points (4G, 2A).
Note: The Cardinals have won five out of the last six meetings dating back to 1999.

Last Meeting: Sept. 23, 2007 - U of L won 3-1
Scouting the Billikens: Saint Louis enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record. The BIllikens are coming off of a 7-0 loss to Missouri State, prior to that, they picked up their first win of the season - a 3-0 decision over Robert Morris. Nicole Kent, Kelsey Shultz and Lexie Lindblad each have a goal to lead the Billikens offensively.
Note: U of L has won the last five meetings dating back to 2000.

 

 

Bustanoby Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Heather Bustanoby was named to the BIG EAST honor roll on Sept. 8. The senior goalkeeper collected six saves for a .750 save percentage and allowed two goals in 135:04 for a 1.04 goals against average on the weekend. Bustanoby also shared a shutout with redshirt freshman Erin Conrad to help the Cards to a 1-1 record on the weekend.

• Junior midfielder Nicole Youman is now tied for fifth on the school's career assists list with 22. She needs six more to move to fourth.
• Six different players have combined for Louisville's 10 goals so far this season. There is a four-way tie for the team lead in goals with Hayley Turner, Haley Jurich, Karah Nall and Rachel Hollenbach tallying two each.

Up Next
Louisville will return to Trager Stadium to play No. 8 Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m and No. 20 Michigan Sunday Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m.

The game against Syracuse marks U of L's BIG EAST Conference opener. The Cards will be tested in league play early against the preseason conference favorite and 2008 NCAA semifinalist.

Friday's contest will also be part of 10th anniversary celebration of Cardinal Park on Friday, September 18, beginning with the field hockey game against Syracuse.

The event will commemorate a 10-year run for Cardinal Park, which has now been renamed Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park. The day will be highlighted by four main events, all occurring at venues in the park, which also includes a pep rally in preparation for the Cardinals' football game at the University of Kentucky the following day.
