LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Kayla May scored a pair of goals as the 17th-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated No. 20 Ohio University 4-1 Saturday at Trager Stadium.

"I was really pleased with how our team responded after last week's loss to Michigan State," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "They took the positives from that game, worked very hard all week and came out and executed our game plan. This was a complete team effort - I was happy with how everyone contributed today."

The Cardinals (2-1) turned in a complete game effort registering 16 shots while limiting the Bobcats to just five in the game. They also held a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.

Louisville got on the scoreboard at the 11:30 mark when sophomore Nicole Youman delivered a pass from the top of the circle and May sent it into the upper left corner of the cage just out of Martin's reach to make it a 1-0 game.

Four minutes later, sophomore Tuli Lim collected a long pass outside the circle and got past Martin, who was closing in for the tackle. With the Ohio defense scrambling to get into position, Lim sent a shot from the right side of the cage into the left corner to give the Cards a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the first half, U of L outshot OU 10-4 and held a 4-2 penalty corner advantage.

Ohio got on the scoreboard six minutes into the second half. Marcy Dull delivered a penalty corner shot which was stopped by Louisville goalkeeper Heather Bustanoby. Taylor Anderson collected the rebound and sent a shot past Bustanoby to pull the Bobcats within one.

The Cards responded at the 46:23 mark when May took a rebound Lim's shot on goal and notched her second goal of the game to give Louisville a 3-1 lead.

Youman tallied the final goal of the game when she tipped a free hit from Karah Nall to make the score 4-1 at the 53:09 mark.

Bustanoby (2-1) posted three saves in the game for the Cardinals, while Martin (1-3) collected seven. The Bobcats drop to 1-3 on the season.

U of L (2-1) will conclude its four-game homestand against Ohio State Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
