Women's Basketball Tips Off 2009-10 Season at Dayton on Sunday

Louisville, Ky. - The Louisville women's basketball team will open up the 2009-10 season on the road against Dayton on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals enter the game ranked 19th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and 23rd in the Associated Press Poll.

The Cardinals are coming off a record breaking season after a 2009 NCAA Runner-up finish. Louisville finished the year with a school record 34-5 overall record and advanced to its first Final Four appearance. The Cards return starting point guard Deseree' Byrd who earned preseason All-BIG EAST honors. Byrd finished last season as the third leading scorer and led the team with 5.0 assists per game. Junior Keshia Hines also returns for the Cardinals after finishing her sophomore season ranked fourth on the team in scoring and third on the team in rebounding.

Dayton finished the 2008-09 season with a 21-14 overall record and made it's third-ever and second-straight appearance in the postseason WNIT. The Flyers will look to 2009 A-10 Rookie of the Year Justine Raterman who averaged 13.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season to pick up where she left off. Junior guard Kristin Daugherty also returns after averaging 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

The game will be broadcast live on WKRD on UofLsports.com with Jim Kelch as the play-by-play announcer.
