Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball program officially opened the 2009-10 season on Thursday by hosting its annual media day activities at Cardinal Arena on the U of L campus. Head coach Jeff Walz and the Cardinal players met with reporters to preview the upcoming season.

Louisville returns three former starters and six lettermen from a team that finished 2009 as the NCAA Runner-Up. The Cardinals made their first Final Four appearance and advanced to the National Championship game. The Cardinals finished the 2008-09 season ranked No. 2 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, the highest in school history. They set a school record in wins finishing the season with a 34-5 record.

The Cardinals were selected to finish tied for third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, while junior Deseree' Byrd was Preseason All-BIG EAST honorable mention selection.

Louisville will play their first exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 1 against Northern Kentucky in Freedom Hall at 2:00 p.m.
