The University of Louisville men's tennis team opened play at the University of Virginia Ranked Plus One Invitational.

In singles action, junior Simon Childs defeated Duke's David Holland 7-5, 6-1 in the A2 flight. Nebraska's Christopher Aumueller topped junior Alejandro Calligari 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Virginia's Steven Rooda beat Andrew Carter 6-1, 6-1.

In the `A3' flight, Virginia Tech's Sebastien Jacques outlasted junior Alejandro Calligari 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The Hokies' Santiago Villegas bested Robert Hall 6-4, 6-3 in the `A4' flight.

Hall and Calligari teamed to beat the Virginia Tech duo of Re and Daciek 8-6 in A2 doubles.

The tournament will continue Saturday morning.
