The No. 14 University of Louisville men's tennis team beat No. 21 Virginia Tech 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"We were trying to hide the fact of how tired and fatigued we were after 15 matches and a 4-day invitational in about seven weeks" said Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma. "I believe we played as many matches as any team in the country. We asked the guys to give us one last great effort before our spring break trip and they definitely delivered. I'm very proud of these players because they have given their very best every time they have stepped out on the court this entire semester. Today's co-MVPs are Austen Childs and Alejandro Calligari."

Louisville got off to a quick start in the doubles matches. The tandem of Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari opened the match with an 8-4 win over Will Beck and Patrick Daciek at the top seed. Austen Childs and Chidi Gabriel followed with an 8-5 victory over Yoann Re and Sebastian Jacques at the two-spot to secure the doubles point for the Cards. Tech's Luka Somen and Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci teamed to beat Andrew Carter and Viktor Maksimcuk 8-5 at No. 3.

In singles action, sophomore Robert Hall kept the Cardinals rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jacques in the six spot. Maksimcuk added to the score for the Cards, beating Tocci 6-3, 6-3 in the three spot while Austen Childs topped Yoann Re 6-3, 6-3 at the top seed to clinch the victory. Calligari also got in on the winning action with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Daciek at No. 4.

With the win, the Cardinals advance to 13-3 on the season while Virginia Tech falls to 5-3.

Louisville is back in action March 17 when they travel to Oahu, Hawaii to take on the No. 41 University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
