The No. 7 Louisville men's soccer team will face No. 25 Notre Dame in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the Dick Delsk Stadium. The Cardinals advance to the BIG EAST semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
Louisville advanced to the semifinals in dramatic fashion. The Cardinals faced DePaul in the quarterfinals and finished with a 1-1 tie. Louisville advanced on penalty kicks 3-2 over DePaul. Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux came up with a big save at the end to seal it for the Cards.
The Cardinals are led in scoring by sophomore Colin Rolfe. Rolfe has 10 goals on the season and two assists for 22 points. Rolfe also has four game-winners for the Cardinals. Senior Freddie Braun is second on the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Boudreaux leads the Cardinals in goal with a 0.64 goals against average. Boudreaux also has a school record 12 shutouts along with 34 saves.
Notre Dame also advanced to the semifinals on penalty kicks. The Irish defeated USF 5-4 on penalty kicks. Bright Dike leads the Irish with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. Philip Tuttle leads Notre Dame in goal with a 0.79 goals against average. Tuttle also has four shutouts and 20 saves on the year.
Notre Dame leads the series 1-7-0 over the Cardinals. Louisville fell to the Irish 4-0 earlier this season in South Bend. Last season the two teams split the series, each winning at home.
