Men's Soccer Wraps Up Successful Spring

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team finished the spring season with a 3-1-1 record. The Cardinals' lone loss came at the hands of the MLS' Chicago Fire. "The spring was very helpful for our growth and development as a team," said head coach Ken Lolla. "We played a very strong schedule of opponents and produced a collection of very good efforts as well as results. The success of the spring helped us build on the momentum created this past fall." Louisville started the season with a 4-2 win over UAB. Phil Edgington and JT Murray scored goals for the Cardinals while Nolan Chandler led the team with two goals. The Cards faced their toughest challenge against the Chicago Fire, an MLS team. Louisville took a 2-1 loss to the Fire. Aaron Clapham score the Cardinals goal. The Cardinals defeated Butler 3-0 in the next game. Austin Berry, Aaron Clapham and JT Murray all scored in the win. Louisville faced Indiana in Bloomington the next game. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Kenney Walker scored the equalizer for the Cardinals. Wrapping up the spring the Cardinals hosted Lindsey Wilson. Louisville won the match 4-2. Phil Edgington and Kenney Walker scored goals while Bryan Kanu led the Cards with two goals. The next day the Cardinals wrapped up the season with their annual banquet. Senior Nate Gerstle was named Most Inspirational. The Most Valuable Player was voted on by the team and sophomore Othaniel Yanez took home the award. The Iron Cardinal Award is given to a player by the strength and conditioning staff. The player that excelled at strength, speed and agility was freshman Austin Berry.
The Team Points Winner was junior Aaron Clapham. Clapham was the player who won the most competitions throughout spring training. The Academic Award winner was senior Marco Terminesi. |
