Louisville, Ky. - The No. 13/17 Louisville men's soccer team defeated SIU Edwardsville 2-0 Friday evening in the first round of the Courtyard by Marriott East Cardinal Classic presented by Mockingbird Soccer Club. The Cardinals improve to 3-0-0 while the Jaguars fall to 1-2-0 on the season.

"I thought that our pressure really wore them down and that led to a good goal at the end of the game to solidify the win," said head coach Ken Lolla. "We did a good job of applying pressure for 90 minutes and that was the difference in the game."

The Cardinals came out with a lot of energy to start the game. The energy paid off when freshman Paolo Del Piccolo played a free kick to sophomore Colin Rolfe in the middle of the box for the game-winner in the 7th minute of play.

The Cardinals held possession for most of the first period. Louisville finished the first half with five shots while SIU Edwardsville finished with one shot. SIU Ewardsville's goalkeeper Scott Meyer finished the first period with two saves while Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux was not challenged in the first period.

The Cardinals once again held possession for the majority of the second period. The Cardinals had several chances but could not convert. Until senior Freddie Braun passed the ball to junior Mark Knight on a breakaway. Knight dribbled the ball into the box and beat the keeper in the 88th minute of play.

The Cardinals finished the game with a 12-3 shot advantage and a 7-2 corner kick advantage. Meyer finished with four saves for the Jaguars while Boudreaux finished with one save. Boudreaux also finished with his third shutout in three games.
