The No. 23/25 Louisville men's soccer team defeated IUPUI 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer complex to finish the UK Invitational undefeated. The Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season and registered their second shutout.
The first period ended in a scoreless tie. Louisville had a slight 6-5 shot advantage in the first period. Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux finished with two saves in the first period while IUPUI's Tyler Keever finished with two saves.
Senior Freddie Braun scored his second goal of the season and his first game-winner. Braun found an opening in the Jaguar's defense and blasted a shot from 25 yards out, beating the keeper in the 53rd minute. The Cardinals scored again in the 77th minute when Simeon Steward played the ball inside the box to Brent Rosendall who found Phil Edginton for the score. Edginton netted the ball past the keeper to the far post.
Both teams finished the match with 11 shots. Louisville held a 4-2 corner kick advantage. Boudreaux finished with four saves while IUPUI finished with two saves.
Four Cardinals were named to the UK Invitational All-Tournament team. Seniors Othaniel Yanez and Edginton earned all-tournament honors along with Berry and Boudreaux.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 11 against SIU-Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. in the Courtyard by Marriott East Cardinal Classic.
