Sept. 19, 2007

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former University of Louisville defensive tackle Amobi Okoye is among the nominees for the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors for Week 2. Okoye, who had four tackles and two sacks last Sunday to lead the Houston Texans to a 34-21 win over the Carolina Panthers, is among a talented group of rookies nominated for this week's honor at NFL.com. Visit http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=rookies to vote for Okoye.

A number of rookies found themselves in the middle of some of the week's most entertaining and hotly contested contests this weekend. The Lions, Broncos and 49ers all had their games decided by a field goal. And rookies Calvin Johnson (Detroit), Marcus Thomas (Denver) and Patrick Willis (San Francisco) were all in the middle of the action, making game-changing plays.

Okoye, a defensive tackle for the Texans and a member of the Cardinal football team from 2003-06, is a key component of the potentially dominant Houston defense. Packers running back DeShawn Wynn, a seventh-round draft pick out of Florida, is starting to remind some of another late-round draft pick who made a great impact in Denver, Terrell Davis, who helped an aging Hall of Fame quarterback reach the Super Bowl.

Now it's your turn to vote on the NFL Rookie of the Week.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLII in Arizona.

This is Pepsi's sixth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the third year that Diet Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.
