Day Two in Pads Proves Too Hot
Aug. 8, 2007 Louisville, Ky - In what was one of the hottest days in the history of Louisville, the sixth practice for the University of Louisville continues to showcase how talented and deep this team can be if they continue to work hard. The team conducted its second straight workout in full pads despite temps that reached 100 degrees on Tuesday. The Cardinals worked out for a little over two hours on the practice fields. Head Steve Kragthorpe scrimmaged for a couple periods, and once again fierce competition followed. The offense won for the second straight day when Hunter Cantwell hit Patrick Carter with a third-down conversion pass. Carter seems ready to become the playmaker everyone thought he'd be. Over the last couple days, not by design, Carter has made a bunch of critical third-down receptions. Freshman wide out Doug Beaumont looks to be a contributor this year. Junior guard Mike Donoghue seems to be settling in with the first team at guard. Donoughue is getting more confidence each day and looks to be the front runner for that spot. However, Abdul Kuyateh continues to push him and looks to be the real deal. He will be in pads for the first time this afternoon. "I'm pleased with the competition I see out there everyday in practice," said Kragthorpe. "I like that we have great competition at every position. I'm seeing a lot of good things. There are many things that we need to get better at, but I love the way they are working." The players braved through the excessive heat to have another productive practice. Junior linebacker Willie Williams gave it his all despite having a nagging virus. He practiced for about 14 periods before having to sit down.
