LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's basketball program officially opened the 2008-09 season on Thursday by hosting its annual media day activities at the Yum! Center on the U of L campus. Head coach Rick Pitino and the Cardinal players met with reporters to preview the upcoming season.

The Cards advanced the farthest of all BIG EAST teams in last year's NCAA Championship, reaching the East Regional finals. Louisville welcomes back four starters from a team that finished 27-9 and was 14-4 in BIG EAST play. On Wednesday, the Cards were picked to finish second in the BIG EAST race behind league favorite UConn, while Terrence Williams earned preseason All-BIG EAST honors, Earl Clark earned honorable mention and Samardo Samuels was tabbed as preseason co-Rookie of the Year by league coaches.

The Cardinals will host a Red-White intra-squad scrimmage on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. ET at Freedom Hall. U of L will open the exhibition season on Nov. 1 against Georgetown College at 1:30 p.m. ET at Freedom Hall and will open regular-season play on Nov. 22 at home against Morehead State.
