O'Bannon Honored as Conference USA Co-Player of the Week
Jan. 31, 2005 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior guard Larry O'Bannon has been honored as the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week for games ending Jan. 30. O'Bannon shared the honor with East Carolina center Moussa Badiane. O'Bannon averaged 21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and shot 54.2 percent from the field in a pair of Conference USA victories for the Cardinals over the past week. He scored a career-high 30 points while hitting six three-point goals against Marquette, adding five rebounds, two steals and a career-best seven assists with no turnovers. The Louisville native was one of six Cardinals in double figures with 12 points and four rebounds at Tulane. O'Bannon has scored in double figures in 19 games this season, more than any other Cardinal. He was one of six Cardinals on the U of L Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the 2004 fall semester with a 3.0 or better GPA. Badiane shared the honor after he became the conference `s all-time leader in blocked shots with a trio of swats during the Pirates' 54-51 upset of league-leader Charlotte on Saturday. Badiane averaged 12 points as the Pirates picked up their first two league wins of the season during the week. This is the fifth occasion a U of L player has been recognized as the league's player of the week this season. Francisco Garcia (Dec. 13, Jan. 3) and Taquan Dean (Nov. 29, Jan. 17) have each earned the honor twice. The Cardinals return to action against Cincinnati in Freedom Hall on Wednesday at 7:02 p.m. EST.
