LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Demetrius Hunter and Mike Sweetney each scored 12 points and Georgetown built a 23-point first-half lead, then hung on for a 70-63 victory over Louisville on Tuesday night.

Nathaniel Burton added 11 points and eight rebounds and Ruben Boumtje Boumtje added seven points and nine rebounds for the taller, stronger Hoyas (6-0), who outrebounded Louisville 58-38.

Marques Maybin scored 28 points for Louisville, which lost its third straight game. Reece Gaines, the Cardinals' second-leading scorer coming into the game, scored 12 points on 3-of-15 shooting.

The Cardinals (2-4) finished 18-of-58 from the field for a season-low 31 percent.

The Hoyas built a 34-15 halftime lead, despite shooting only 13-of-39 but finished with a 35-21 rebound advantage. Louisville was just 5-of-25 from the field in the first half.

Gaines triggered Louisville's comeback with a 3-pointer with 13:55 left in the game. Maybin was fouled on a 3-point shot attempt and hit three free throws to trim Georgetown's lead to 48-38 with 11:54 left.

The Hoyas responded with a 7-0 run that was capped by Hunter's 3-pointer with 10:29 remaining.

Georgetown led 59-45 when Luke Whitehead started a 13-4 burst with a midcourt steal and breakaway dunk. Gaines and Maybin hit 3-pointers during the run and Whitehead pulled Louisville within 62-58 with a short jumper from the wing with 1:55 left.

Sweetney and Boumtje Boumtje both made one free throw over the next minute to push the lead to 64-58 and Burton sealed the victory with a breakaway layup with 40 seconds left.
