LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville baseball head coach Dan McDonnell announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Andy Flett to a National Letter-of-Intent on Friday increasing the Cards' 2009 recruiting class to 10.

The latest signee joins outfielder Jarred Clarkson (Shelbyville, Ky.), catcher J.J. Ethel (Phoenix, Ariz.), outfielder Drew Fitzpatrick (Warren, Ohio), shortstop Kyle Grieshaber (Chesterfield, Mo.), right-handed pitcher Matthew Koch (Cherokee, Iowa), right-handed pitcher Curtis McCombs (Louisville, Ky.), first baseman Mike Morrison (Fort Wayne, Ind.), third-baseman Cade Stallings (Knoxville, Tenn.) and shortstop Jason Thompson (Germantown, Tenn.), who were announced last week. The Cards' entire 2009 recruiting class will be on campus next fall and eligible to compete in the spring of 2010.

"This is a complete recruiting class with balance across the board," McDonnell said. "Coach Lemonis and Coach Williams did an outstanding job in assembling a group that has speed, power, skill and experience. We have three guys ranked No. 1 in their state respectively, two top 100 players and two potential junior college All-Americans."

The Cards will open the 2009 season in less than three months with a three-game series at SEC foe Florida on Feb. 20-22, while the home-opener is set for Feb. 25 against Eastern Kentucky.

Andy Flett, RHP
Fenton, Mo. (Lindbergh HS)
Flett is a 6-8, 210-pound right-handed pitcher for Lindbergh High School, where he is coached by Darin Scott. He also plays for the St. Louis Pirates traveling team, where he is coached by Rick Strickland and Wayne Rohlfing. As a junior, Flett earned All-Suburban West Conference honorable mention with a 4-3 record as Lindbergh tied for the regular-season conference championship. Over the summer, he was 7-3 overall for the St. Louis Pirates with a 2.35 ERA and 55 strikeouts thanks to a good curve ball and the ability to change speeds effectively during in 60 innings of work. He also finished with an 8-0 fall record for the Pirates. A talented athlete, Flett is also the starting center on Lindbergh's basketball team.
