Jurich Selected Preseason All-America
Nov. 11, 2003 DENVER, CO - University of Louisville senior outfielder Mark Jurich has been selected to the 2004 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American Third Team it was announced on Tuesday. Jurich, was the first Louisville baseball player in 10 years to earn All-American postseason honors, and just the third overall, when he was tabbed by the NCBWA after the 2002 slate. Last season he broke his hand in the 2003 season opener and was limited to just 32 games after earning a preseason mention by the same organization. Despite the injury, he batted .285 with 11 doubles, five home runs and 33 RBI. Following the 2003 season he was selected in the Major League Baseball Entry Draft in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves, but elected to return for his final season of college baseball. Jurich was a 2002 postseason All-American as well as First Team All C-USA. That summer he was a member of the gold medal winning USA Baseball National Team. Following the 2001 season he was named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
The baseball team will open its 9th season under Head Coach Lelo Prado in February. The Cards return 19 letterwinners from a 2002 squad that went 34-23.
