Louisville Baseball to Host Fourth Annual Pizza Bowl Series Oct. 20-22

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team will close out its fall season with the best-of-three intra-squad series on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Jim Patterson Stadium. The fourth annual Pizza Bowl series will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET each day and all three games will be free of charge and open to the public. Live video of Tuesday and Wednesday's Pizza Bowl games will also be available online free of charge through CardsTV at UofLSports.com. Dan McDonnell enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Cardinals after leading Louisville to its second NCAA Super Regional in three years, a sweep of the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles and a top 15 national ranking. The Cards matched a school record with 47 wins in 2009 before being eliminated in the NCAA Super Regional by No. 3 Cal State Fullerton. Louisville advanced to the Super Regional after earning a 5-3 win over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Regional final at Jim Patterson Stadium. Louisville assistant coach Xan Barksdale and student assistant Kyle Cheesebrough will server as the coaches for next week's Pizza Bowl series. The Cardinals officially opened fall workouts on Sept. 14. U of L returns 23 players with game experience, including seven position starters. Leading the list of returning players is Second Team All-American Phil Wunderlich (UT), All-BIG EAST performers Andrew Clark (1B), Adam Duvall (2B) and Thomas Royse (RHP).
The Cardinals are tentatively scheduled to open the 2010 season on Feb. 19-21 at Jim Patterson Stadium with a three-game series against Bowling Green. The complete 2010 Louisville baseball schedule is expected to be released later in the fall. |
