FLORENCE, Italy - Former University of Louisville right-handed pitcher Trystan Magnuson was named the Top Relief Pitcher at the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup, while former Cardinal B.J. Rosenberg and Team USA won the World Cup title.

Magnuson finished with a 3-0 record, including the win in Team Canada's 6-2 victory over Puerto Rico to secure the bronze medal at the World Cup in late September. Born in Vancouver, Canada and raised in Louisville, Magnuson did not allow a run to score in his 7.2 innings of relief and four total appearances out of the Team Canada bullpen. Opposing batters hit just .115 off Magnuson in the World Cup and he finished with eight total strikeouts.

Magnuson, who played for the Cards from 2004-07, was an All-BIG EAST Third Team selection in 2007. He holds Louisville's single season record for pitching appearances with 37 in 2007 and is tied with Rosenberg for fourth in single season saves with nine in 2007. He is also fourth in career ERA at Louisville at 3.24, sixth in career saves with 10 and eighth in career appearances on the mound with 72.

Rosenberg and Team USA clinched the gold medal with 10-5 win over Cuba in the World Cup championship game last month. The U.S. reeled off 14 consecutive victories after dropping its opener and has now won the Baseball World Cup four times (1973, 1974, 2007 and 2009). Rosenberg, a native of Vine Grove, Ky., did not have a decision on the mound in his five appearances at the World Cup. He finished with 11 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work out of the bullpen for Team USA and allowed four earned runs on five hits overall.

Rosenberg was a standout pitcher for the Cardinals from 2004-08 leaving a lasting mark on the Louisville record books. Rosenberg, who earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors in 2008 as a key contributor for the Cards' BIG EAST Tournament champion and NCAA Regional squad, is second in career starts at Louisville with 47, fourth in career wins with 18, fourth in career innings pitched with 306.2, seventh in career strikeouts with 212 and seventh in career saves with nine.
