LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville outfielder Ryan Wright and pitchers Derek Self and Tony Zych have been named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper marking the third straight season at least one Cardinal player has earned the honor.

Wright, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., who was listed among the designated hitters, enters this weekend's NCAA Super Regional series at Cal State Fullerton fourth on the team in hitting at .336 and third in RBI with 66. He has started 27 games for the Cardinals in right field, 15 at shortstop, 11 at DH, seven in left field and two at third base. On Monday night, Wright's three-run homer off Vanderbilt ace Mike Minor gave Louisville the lead for good in its 5-3 win over the Commodores to win the NCAA Regional and advance to this weekend's Fullerton Super Regional.

Self is from Cave City, Ky., and is among the relief pitchers on the Louisville Slugger All-American list. He enters the weekend 7-0 overall with a 3.25 ERA, 34 strikeouts in 44.1 innings and one save to his credit, while opposing hitters are batting just .249 against this season. In his last outing, he pitched three perfect innings of relief to earn his seventh win of the season in the Cardinals' 3-2 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night at the NCAA Regional.

Zych is a Chicago native and is also among the relief pitchers on the list of Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans. He is 6-2 overall with two saves, a 3.25 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched, while opposing batters are hitting just .235 against him. After spending most of the season in the Cards' bullpen, he recently moved in the Cards' starting rotation with wins in all three of his career starts. After winning starts against Ohio State on May 6 and Connecticut on May 24 in the BIG EAST Tournament title game, he pitched six strong innings against Vanderbilt to earn the victory in the Cards' NCAA Regional title game win over the `Dores.
