TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Louisville freshman outfielder Stewart Ijames has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team chosen by Collegiate Baseball.

Ijames, from Owensboro, Ky., (Owensboro Catholic) previously earned Third Team All-BIG EAST honors.

Playing in 54 games and starting 44 primarily in right field for the 2008 BIG EAST Champion Cardinals, Ijames batted .351 with 11 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 39 RBI. His .386 average in BIG EAST play lead the Cardinals, with five of his home runs and 19 RBI coming during league play.

In six postseason games the freshman batted .393 with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI. His final at bat of the season was a two-run home run off of SEC Pitcher of the Year Joshua Fields in the NCAA Athens Regional.

He becomes U of L's sixth freshman All-American joining Chris Dominguez and Justin Marks (2007), Zach Jackson (2002), Mark Jurich (2001) and Matt Berger (1994).

The Cardinals finished the season 41-21, advancing to consecutive regionals for the first time in school history.
