LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team earned a No. 1 seed in the 2009 NCAA Championship and the Cardinals will host No. 4 seed Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium in the first round of the Louisville Regional.
Joining the Cardinals (44-15) and Hoosiers (32-25) at the Louisville Regional will be No. 2 seed Middle Tennessee (43-16) and No. 3 seed Vanderbilt (34-25), which will play on Friday at 3 p.m. ET. The winner of Friday's first round games will play on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, while the two losing team's will play an elimination game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The winner of Saturday's elimination game will play the losing team from Saturday night's winner's bracket game in an elimination game on Sunday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to play the winner of Saturday night's winner's bracket game on Sunday at 7 p.m. If needed, the two teams from Sunday night's game will return for the final game of the Louisville Regional on Monday at 7 p.m. Gates at Jim Patterson Stadium will open at 2 p.m. ET each of the first three days of the Louisville Regional.
The Louisville Regional Ticket Order Form is available online at www.UofLSports.com and the Louisville Ticket Office will begin taking ticket orders by phone on Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET by calling (502) 852-5863.
All-tournament tickets, which include admission to the entire Louisville Regional, will cost $90 for reserved chairback seats, $64 for bleacher seats, $50 for berm seats and $38 for students with a valid ID. Children age 1 and under will be admitted free of charge.
Single game tickets for the Louisville Regional will go on sale on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium. Single game tickets for the Louisville Regional are priced at $14 for reserved chairback seats, $10 for bleacher seats, $8 for general admission berm seats and $6 for students with a valid ID. All tickets purchased at Jim Patterson Stadium must be paid for with cash.
Though this will be the first time Louisville has hosted as baseball regional, it will be the second time in three years the Cardinals have hosted post-season games at Jim Patterson Stadium. In 2007, Louisville hosted Oklahoma State in a Super Regional, with the Cardinals taking two of three from the Cowboys and advancing to the program's first ever College World Series. The three-game Super Regional series with OSU drew a total of 12,372 fans for an average of more than 4,100 per game.
Louisville enters the 2009 NCAA Regional as a No. 1 seed for the first time in school history after earning their second straight automatic bid with Sunday's 11-3 win over Connecticut in the BIG EAST Championship title game in Clearwater, Fla. The Cardinals are making their third straight NCAA Regional appearance overall. Louisville and Indiana met twice during the 2009 regular season with the Cardinals earning a 15-1 win over the Hoosiers on April 7 in Louisville and a 10-8 win on April 21 in Bloomington, Ind.
Indiana is making its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1996 after winning the Big Ten Tournament title on Saturday night with an impressive 13-2 win over Minnesota. The Hoosiers rolled through the Big Ten Tournament winning all four of its games in decisive fashion, outscoring its opponents 47-9 during the tournament.
Middle Tennessee earned the automatic bid from the Sun Belt Conference thanks to a 3-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night. The Blue Raiders also won the Sun Belt regular season title and are making their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2004.
Vanderbilt earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Regional after an impressive final week of the season, which included three wins at the SEC Tournament and a championship game appearance against LSU. The Commodores, who earned a 4-3 win in 10 innings over the Cards on April 22 in Louisville, are making their fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance.
