Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore outfielder Josh Richmond had three RBI and was one of four players with at least two hits to lead Jimmy's Jets to an 11-4 win over Xan's Zephyrs in game one of the 2008 Pizza Bowl on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

With the win, the Jets, coached by student assistant coach and former Cardinal James Belanger, take a 1-0 advantage over the Zephyrs, coached by assistant coach Xan Barksdale, in the best-of-three intra-squad series, which closes fall workouts for the Louisville baseball team.

Game two of the third annual Pizza Bowl is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium following the completion of the Cards' homecoming football game against Middle Tennessee and admission is free. Game three is set for Sunday at noon.

The Zephyrs opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as sophomore Phil Wunderlich connected on a two-run homer off of Jets' starter Bob Revesz to score Chris Dominguez for an early 2-0 advantage.

The Jets bounced back to tie things at 2-2 in the third as John Dao, who finished with two hits, singled off of Zephyrs' starter Dean Kiekhefer and scored on an error as Drew Haynes misplayed a hit by Adam Duvall, who later scored on a fielder's choice.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Jets gained the lead for good with a five-run fifth inning on five hits and one error. The inning began with a single through the right side by Greg Tingle and back-to-back bunt singles by Dao and Duvall. With the bases loaded, Richmond singled to center to score Tingle and Dao for a 4-2 advantage, while Duvall scored one batter later on an error by Andrew Clark to make it 5-2. Richmond made it 6-2 on a Neil Holland sacrifice fly, while Tim Hayes' singled home Kyle Cheesebrough to make it 7-2.

The Zephyrs cut the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth as Drew Haynes doubled to left field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a groundout by Ryan Wright, but the Jets pushed the margin back to five at 8-3 in the top of the sixth as Richmond singled and then scored on a hit by Stewart Ijames.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the Jets used a three-run eighth inning to take an 11-3 advantage, while the Jets made the final margin seven as Clark doubled to right center, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice by Dominguez.

Gavin Logsdon earned the win for the Jets pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Revesz, while Kiekhefer took the loss for the Zephyrs giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, though only two of the seven runs were earned.
