LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Josh Richmond, Justin McClanahan and Chris Dominguez went a combined 10 for 15 at the plate with eight RBI and scored seven times, leading the University of Louisville to a 12-8 win over Marshall on Wednesday evening in The Ville.

The Thundering Herd (14-16-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first when Kurt Lipton, Tommy Johnson, Jeff Rowley and Tyler Oliver each plated runs in consecutive fashion for Marshall.

After Cardinal (17-13) starter James Belanger set down the Herd in order in the top of the second, the UofL offense ignited in the bottom of the frame, taking a 6-4 lead.

Andrew Clark, Jeff Arnold and Alec Lowrey hit consecutive singles to load the bases for Kyle Cheesebrough. The junior catcher, pressed into duty due to an injury to senior receiver Derrick Alfonso, lifted a deep fly ball to center that scored Clark and put the Cards on the board.

An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Drew Haynes cut the lead in half, and after John Dao singled, Richmond and McClanahan hit consecutive RBI singles to tie the game at four.

Dominguez then drilled a double to center that plated two and gave the Cards their first lead.

Richmond and McClanahan combined on one-out singles in the fourth and a Dominguez single made it 7-4. Clark walked to load the bases and Arnold walked in a run before Lowrey's sac fly to center extended the advantage to 9-4 Cards.

The Herd picked up two in the fifth on an RBI triple by Kenny Soccoro and an RBI groundout off the bat of Victor Gomez, but the Cards responded in the bottom of the fifth.

Dao reached on an error, Richmond singled and McClanahan worked the count to 3-0 before blistering his sixth home run of the season on to the berm in left, a three-run shot that put the Cards up 12-6.

An RBI groundout by Marshall's Johnson in the seventh and an RBI single in the ninth off the bat of Rowley closed the scoring.

Belanger improves to 4-1 on the season with the win, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out five in six innings. The five strikeouts matches his career best.

Matt Lea tossed an inning and two thirds, and gave up a run on two hits and three walks, fanning three.

Neil Holland struck out the side in order in the eighth and fanned all four he faced in an inning and a third, while Gabriel Shaw closed things out giving up a run on two hits, striking out one in the ninth.

MU starter Justin Moore (1-2) gave up 12 runs, 11 earned on 14 hits and three walks in four-plus innings, striking out two in the loss. Three herd relievers worked the final four innings, allowing four hits and a walk, striking out four.

Every Cardinal starter had a hit, paced by Richmond's first career four-hit game.
