RICHMOND, Ky. - The 25th-ranked Louisville baseball team's four-game winning streak was halted on Tuesday with a 7-5 road loss to Eastern Kentucky at Turkey Hughes Field.

With temperatures in the 30's throughout, the Louisville bats never heated up as the Cards were out-hit by the host Colonels 11-6. The win for EKU (3-2) avenged a 9-8 loss to the Cardinals (4-4) last Wednesday in Louisville and ended U of L's 10-game winning streak against the Colonels.

For the fourth time this season, the Cardinals faced a 4-0 deficit, this time trailing by that margin after the first three innings. After a scoreless first inning, EKU took a 2-0 lead in the second on two-run home run by catcher Joey Stevens off Louisville starter Tyler Mathis. The Colonels made it 4-0 an inning later with an RBI double off the bat of center fielder Matt Davis and an RBI groundout by Aaron Barrows.

Louisville broke into the scoring column in the fifth inning to cut the EKU lead to 4-1 as senior Alec Lowrey doubled to right field off EKU starter Jim Clancy to score senior second baseman Adam Duvall, who had reached base on walk, stole second and moved to third on an error by EKU's Stevens.

Following a scoreless sixth inning, Louisville pulled to within a run at 4-3 in the seventh thanks to a pair of Colonel errors. Junior catcher Jeff Arnold led off the inning by being hit by a Greg Terry offering and was followed by a walk to Duvall. On the first pitch to Louisville senior designated hitter Alec Lowrey, Arnold and Duvall both took off and Stevens' throw to third base sailed over the head of third baseman Jayson Langfels, which allowed Arnold to score and Duvall to advance to third.

After a walk to Lowrey, sophomore outfielder Drew Haynes struck out and sophomore outfielder Nate Holland popped up to the catcher for the first two outs of the inning. Freshman shortstop Ryan Wright then hit a ground ball to EKU shortstop Richie Rodriguez, who couldn't control it for the second error of the inning a run scored by Duvall to make it 4-3 Eastern Kentucky.

With the Cards cutting into their lead in the top of the seventh, the Colonels bounced back in the home half of the seventh for three runs on five straight singles off Louisville freshman reliever Derek Self. After Rodriguez opened the inning with a ground out to Wright, Davis started the hitting with single through the right side. He was followed by another single through the right side off the bat of Barrows and then scored on a single through the left side by second baseman Tyler Rehmel to make it 5-3. Another single through the left side by Langfels scored Barrows to make it 6-3 EKU and was followed by a single up the middle by Anthony Ottrando to score Rehmel for a 7-3 Eastern lead.

The Cards came back to score one run in the eighth as Clark led off the inning with a double to right center and eventually scored on an RBI single to left by Duvall to make it 7-4. U of L also added a run in the ninth on an RBI double by Clark to score Wright, but the Cards were unable to get any closer.

Clark finished the day 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored and extended his hitting streak to five games. The New Palestine, Ind., native has hit safely in seven of the Cards' eight games this season and is one of Louisville's top hitter with a .387 average.

Mathis (0-1) took the loss for Louisville allowing three earned runs on five hits to go with seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings of action. Clancy picked up his first win of the season for EKU allowing only one run on two hits and striking out eight in 5.0 innings.

Up next, the Cards return home to host Western Michigan on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium. Louisville will then host the Cardinal Classic sponsored by UBS on Friday through Sunday. The event will begin with Louisville hosting Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.

Saturday's schedule at the Cardinal Classic sponsored by UBS will feature Eastern Illinois vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 11 a.m., and will be followed by Louisville and Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 2 p.m. The event will conclude on Sunday with another EIU-Milwaukee game at 11 a.m., and the Cards vs. Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. Admission is free for the entire event.
