2011: Hit .204 with one home run and eight RBI while making 25 starts and playing in 47 games. Had a hit and a run scored in the Cards' win over St. John's at the BIG EAST Championship. Added a hit and an RBI in the BIG EAST win over Cincinnati. Was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in win over Cincy on April 9. Hit first career home run, a solo shot to right center, at USC on March 16. Had the only RBI of the game on a single up the middle in the fourth inning of the Cardinals' 1-0 win over Kent State on March 6. Opened season going 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Cardinals' win over Michigan at BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge. Started at first base in all three games at the Challenge.

2010: Hit .324 overall with 11 RBI and seven doubles in freshman season as a Cardinal. Made 16 total starts at first base and designated hitter and had 40 total appearances. Also made three appearances on the mound with 1.2 innings of work. Earned a key two-out hit to extend the ninth inning and then scored on the game-winning home run in the Cardinals' comeback win at Notre Dame on May 22. Had a two-run single and scored once in Cards' win at Ohio State on May 4. Went 2-for-3 with game-winning, walk-off RBI single in Cardinals' 10-9 win over UK on April 28. Finished 1-for-3 with an RBI in Cardinals' April 24 win over Seton Hall. Went 1-for-3 with a run scored while making the start at first base in Cards' April 18 win at WVU. Made second appearance of the season on the mound with less than inning of relief at Pittsburgh on April 10. Extended career best six-game hitting streak with an infield single at Kentucky on April 6. Finished 2-for-4 with two RBI in April 1 win over Villanova. Had a pinch-hit single at IU on March 30. Went 1-for-3 with a walk as the Cards' DH on March 27 against UConn. Hammered a game-tying RBI double to right center and then scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning of the Cardinals' 8-7 win at Evansville on March 23. Was 1-for-2 with an RBI single in Cardinals' win over Le Moyne on March 7. Earned his first career start at first base on March 5 against Le Moyne. Made his first career appearance on the mound, allowing one earned run on one hit with a strikeout against Michigan State. Picked up his first career hit in his first career start as the Cardinals' DH in the win over Michigan at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge.

High School: Selected in the 21st round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants after completing his senior season for Lakeshore High School. Earned All-State, All-Conference and All-Region honors at Lakeshore High School, where he was coached by Mark Nate. He hit .486 with eight home runs, 63 RBI and 22 doubles during his senior season. On the mound, he was 7-0 with 1.83 ERA in his final prep season. As a junior, he hit .440 with five home runs and 42 RBI and was 5-0 with a 1.97 ERA on the mound. He hit .419 with three home runs and 32 RBI as a sophomore. Also earned three letters in football as a quarterback at Lakeshore. Earned All-State and All-Conference honors in football.

Personal: Born Zachary James Wasserman on Aug. 30, 1990, in St. Joseph, Mich. Son of Jim and Kim Wasserman. Has one younger sister, Jordan. Majoring in sport administration at the University of Louisville. Biggest thrill in sports was making two state semifinal appearances in two sports, one in baseball and one in football. After college, he plans to play professional baseball as well as become a teacher and baseball coach. People with the greatest influence on his athletic career are his family because no matter the situation, they have been there for him through thick and thin. Hobbies and outside interests include beach volleyball, lifting weights, playing sports, fishing, Ping Pong and Young Life. Favorite movie is Field of Dreams. Favorite TV shows are SportsCenter, Family Guy, Two and a Half Men and Nitro Circus. Favorite athletes include Josh Hamilton, Mickey Mantle, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Ken Griffey, Jr. Favorite cereal is Cap'n Crunch. Favorite candy bar is Butterfinger. Favorite foods include his mom's meatloaf, pasta and steak. Favorite teams include any team from Cleveland...the Indians, Cavaliers and Browns. Favorite music is rock and alternative rock. Favorite quote is "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13. If he could have dinner with three people, he would invite his grandpa, Mickey Mantle and his dad. His father Jim played football at Ball State University.
