High School: Tied an Eagles record by earning 15 varsity letters. Lettered six times in golf, five in baseball and four in basketball. Made the All-Region team in hoops as a shooting guard. Was the Wendy's Heismann winner at Appolo HS. Won 26 games in four years, with a 1.60 ERA, both second in school history. Was All-State, All-Region and All-District as a junior and senior. Hit .426 with 36 RBI, a 10-2 record and 76 strikeouts as a senior. Won four district and three regional titles in five years of HS baseball.

Personal: Born 11/18/84 in Daviess County, Kentucky to Bob and Sheree Mantooth. Has one younger sister. From the same high school as Rex Champman and Brad Wilkerson. Is majoring in physical education. Spends spare time fishing and hunting. Bull Durham, Major League and Pirates of the Carribean are his favorite movies. Watches the Real World and Baseball Tonight. Greg Maddux is his favorite athlete and the Braves are his favorite team. Lasagne and fried squash are his favorite foods. His father played at Murray State, was his HS coach and is his biggest influence on him athletically. He was named after Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg. His dream dinner guests would be Mickey Mantle, Cy Young and Jackie Robinson.
