2011: Hit .333 with three home runs, 13 RBI and nine doubles while making 22 starts and playing in 35 games. Earned All-BIG EAST Tournament honors after hitting .333 with a home run, five RBI and five runs scored in five games. Hit .360 with three home runs, nine RBI and six doubles in 16 games and 12 starts in the month of May. Hit .667 with a home run, five doubles and five RBI in Notre Dame series. Best game of the series came in the 14-2 series-opening win, when he was 3-for-4 with his second home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Had breakout weekend against West Virginia going 6-for-8 with three runs and two RBI in Cards' two wins over Mountaineers. Was 3-for-4 as the DH in series finale and was 3-for-3 as catcher on April 2. Made first career start as DH in Cardinals' win over WKU on March 29. Earned first career RBI with an RBI sacrifice fly at Rutgers on March 25. Also made first appearance behind the plate catching the ninth inning in the March 25 win. Made first career appearance for the Cardinals as a pinch hitter on March 13 at Pepperdine.
High School: Gardner earned All-State Honorable Mention as a senior and was a two-time All-Region and All-District selection during his career at Whitefield Academy, where he was coached by Brian Runyan. As a senior, he was also named an East/West All-Star after hitting eight home runs for Whitefield, which finished third at the All "A" State Tournament. He finished with six home runs as a junior and hit five homers as a sophomore at Whitefield, where he earned six letters overall after starting his prep career in seventh grade.
Personal: Born Jeffrey William Gardner, Jr., on Jan. 21, 1992, in Louisville, Ky. Son of Jeff and JoAnn Gardner. Has two older sisters, Stephanie and Jamie. Majoring in justice administration at the University of Louisville. After college, he plans to play professional baseball, start a family and do what the Lord wants for him to do. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career is Mike Dorg, who helped teach him to push himself and strive for excellence. Biggest thrill in sports was hitting a three-run home run to give his team the lead and eventually the win in a state semi-final game. Hobbies and outside interests include movies, hunting, fishing, and hanging out. Favorite movies are The Natural, Remember the Titans and Field of Dreams. Enjoys watching The Office. Favorite athletes are Tim Tebow, Albert Pujols and Ted Williams. Favorite cereal is Honey Nut Cheerios. Favorite candy bar is Snickers. Favorite foods are Mexican and Japanese.
