2001: Missed nearly two months of the season after a line drive fractured his patella against Southern Illinois(3/11). The second out of the inning was recorded on the play, and he remained in the game, striking out the next batter to end the inning, before he left the game. Pitched in eight games, starting four. In his three appearances after the injury, he tossed 8.1 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits, while fanning five. Picked up his first collegiate win against Morehead State(5/8), tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. Threw 2.2 more innings of scoreless relief in the Cards upset of #6 Tulane(5/12).
1999 & 2000: Played at Cypress Community College where he posted a 13-3 record during his two seasons. Cypress was junior college state runner up, while Garrett earned first team all conference honors.
High School: Four-year letter winner at St. John Bosco HS in Bellflower, CA, the same high school that produced Red Sox star Nomar Garciaparra.
Personal: Born 8/24/78 to Wayne and Dana Estabrook in Whittier, California. Major is physical education. Hopes to teach and coach high school baseball. His father Wayne played quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals and L.A. Rams as well as in the WFL with the California Suns and Hawai’i Hawai’ians. Dream golf foursome would be Orel Hershiser, Jimmy Key and his father-”I don’t want to be the worst golfer on the team.
