2005 Because of nagging injuries, he was limited to one appearance during his senior season, working two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one in win over Wright State(5/16). Also made a pinch-hit appearance against Morehead (5/4).
2004: Regained his pre-Tommy John form, going 3-0 with a pair of saves and a 4.42 ERA. Tallied his second save of the season with three innings of work in the win at USF(5/21). Pitched two scoreless in start at UK, fanning one(5/5). Pitched seven strong innings in first start of the season, earning a win against Evansville(4/20). Allowed one earned run on five hits, fanning five. Twirled 2.2 frames of scoreless relief allowing three hits and a walk while fanning two to earn the win over WKU(4/6). Picked up a win in relief against Marshall(3/30), tossing 5.0 innings, allowing an unearned run on six hits and two walks, striking out a pair. Struck out two in a two-thirds of an inning against WKU(3/23). Earned his first save of the season with two innings of scoreless relief against EKU(2/25), allowing one hit and striking out two.
2003: Continued rehab process following Tommy John surgery. Tossed 25.2 innings, striking out 17 in seven starts and two appearances out of the pen. Pitched four strong innings at Evansville(4/1) allowing a run on five hits and a walk, striking out two to pick up his first win of the season. Made the AD Honor Roll.
2002: Sat out the season as a medical redshirt.
2001: Was 3-1 with a 5.07 ERA and two saves in 16 appearances as a true freshman. Was 2-0 with a 4.18 ERA in conference games. Started seven games, and pitched 49.2 innings, striking out 39. Pitched five solid innings in second college start, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks, but struck out 11 batters. Followed that up with a four inning/five strikeout effort against Memphis where he was touched for just one run on three hits. Tossed a scoreless inning against Northern Iowa(2/24) to pick up his first collegiate win. Tallied his to saves in back-to-back appearances against Southern Illinois(3/11) and Western Kentucky(3/21), surrendering two hits in three innings with one strikeout. Gave up just two hits and a walk to go with a pair of K's to pick up the win over UAB(5/6) the 10-0 shutout.
High School: Three year member of the all-district team while earning three letters in baseball at Central Hardin HS in Upton, Kentucky. On HS honor roll all four years, never missing a day of school in 13 years. Posted a 20-6 record with two saves and 169 strikeouts, while also hitting over .300 with 51 RBI for the Bruins. Tossed two no-hitters. Also played basketball.
Personal: Born 5/9/82 in Upton, Kentucky to Gary and Sharon Cruse. Majoring in business management and marketing. Youngest of three children. Enjoys fishing, and X-Box in his spare time. His uncle is Ralph Jones, NASCAR driver, who once placed 11th in the Daytona 500 with Chase's father as crew chief. Likes listening to "old" country music. Dream foursome would be his mother and father and Randall Skaggs. His favorite athlete is Nolan Ryan. Favorite food is his mom's biscuits and gravy. He is proud to claim that he is the best ping pong and Halo player on the team. Chase visited all 50 states before he was nine years old. In July 2002 he hiked the Grand Canyon in 113 degree temperatures. Best athlete he has ever faced is Mark Prior his freshman season. People with the greatest influence on his athletic career are his parents.
