McKay Earns All-BIG EAST Accolades to Pace Cardinals at BIG EAST Championships

BRONX, N.Y. - University of Louisville junior Tarah McKay earned All-BIG EAST accolades for the third consecutive year as she led the Cardinal women to a seventh-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., while the men's team finished eighth overall.

McKay completed the 6,000-meter course in 20:51 to earn a 10th place finish. West Virginia's Marie-Louise Asselin won the women's individual title with a time of 20:10.

Sophomore Emily Borsare crossed the finish line 42nd in the field of 137 with a time of 21:47. Rounding out the Cards' finishers were Kim Grieshaber in 53rd with a time of 22:15, Kelsey Page 56th in 22:31, and Kortni Dukes 61st in 22:48. Others finishing the race were Kathryn Long and Kat Alcorn.

U of L earned 222 points to improve one spot from last year's race and claim seventh overall out of 16 teams. No. 6 Villanova took home the team title with 48 points just edging out No. 5 West Virginia who had 48 points, while No. 11 Georgetown (74) and No. 24 Providence (123) finished third and fourth, respectively.

A year removed from winning their first BIG EAST Cross Country championship, the Cardinal men finished eighth with 221 points. Redshirt-freshman Matt Hughes set the tone as he posted a time of 25:16 in the 8,000-meter course, third fastest by a freshman, to finish 22nd.

 

 

Following close behind Hughes was junior Scott McClain who bettered his position from a year ago by two spots as he finished in 25:27. Matt Bruce came in 54th at 26:13, Luke Lovelace 58th in 26:16 and Chase Violet 60th in 26:20 to round out the scoring for the Cardinals. Freshman Gordon Dooley also finished the race.

Andrew Bumbalough won the men's individual title while leading No. 10 Georgetown to the team championship with 35 points. Notre Dame (64), Villanova (78), and No. 27 Providence (89) finished 2nd-4th, respectively.

Louisville will continue their season at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Nov. 15.
