Track & Field Signee Andre Black Finishes Second in Triple Jump at National Junior Olympic Championships
July 29, 2005 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Louisville track and field signee Andre Black surpassed the current Cardinal school record in the triple jump with a second-place mark of 50 feet, 0.5 inch Friday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Black, a 2005 graduate of McGill Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala., finished second in a field of 31 athletes with a jump that was 1.25 inches better than the current U of L school record of 49-11.25 set by Stanley~nbsp> Tanyhill in 1998. Black won both the 2005 indoor and outdoor triple jump state titles and was the 2004 outdoor champion as well. "We're very pleased to see Andre continuing to improve his marks this summer," said U of L track and field head coach Ron Mann. "To have someone with Andre's ability in the jumps joining our program will be a great addition and his performance today in Indianapolis only reinforces that." Black is one of 14 highly decorated prep athletes to sign with the U of L track and field program for the 2005-06 season, the Cards' first as a member of the BIG EAST Conference.
