LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior thrower and two-time BIG EAST champion Emily Turland has been named First Team Academic All-District for 2007 by ESPN The Magazine.

Turland, a native of New Albany, Ind., has a 3.77 GPA while majoring in Accountancy and Equine Business. Outside of the classroom, Turland won the 2007 BIG EAST hammer throw title to lead the Cardinal women to a runner-up team finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in May while in Feb., she won the conference indoor weight throw title.

"This is a nice honor for Emily and it's well deserved," said Cards' head coach Ron Mann. "At the University of Louisville, we realize the importance of working hard not only in the track and field events, but also on working hard in the classroom and in the community."

In March, she became the Cards' first ever woman to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 10th in the weight throw, and she also earned an at-large bid to last weekend's NCAA Outdoor Championships finishing in the top 25 in the nation. Turland is also the Cards' school record holder in the weight throw, hammer throw and discus.
